![]() Our “quality of life” work rules are very important. I have not had a pay raise or any other work rule improvements for 3 years now. April 1st marked the 2nd year that our contract became amendable. We have been in contract negotiations for 3 years now. This system, while trying to lessen impacts on communities, hurts labor. This outdated Railway Labor Act allows companies to delay or slow negotiations since new contracts generally mean increased costs for the company. This is usually done to prevent economic hardships to communities that the airline serves. For an airline pilot union to go on strike, there are many steps that have to happen, and then the President can stop a strike from happening. Our union contract never expires, it only becomes amendable. Airline employee contracts are covered under the Railway Labor Act and are bound to those governmental rules. I thought it might be time to share my point of view. Saw this posted on FB by one of the Alaska Pilots:įriends, I have been pretty silent about my employer and this past weeks’ events. ![]()
